Enhance your life through fashion.

Science has found that the right and left hemispheres of our brains are responsible for different functions .   We use the left side of our brain for analysis and calculations, logic, speech and language comprehension, and recognition of words, letters, and numbers.   The right side of our brain is responsible for creativity, intuition, imagination, emotion and feeling, creation, context/perception, art, and the recognition of faces, places and objects.   While we all use both sides of our brain for various activities,  much of our everyday life requires the conscious application of our left brain function.   The knowledge and skills we learn and develop in our left brain are crucial for our success as self-sufficient humans and members of society. Much of our school’s curriculum are dedicated to this development. Because ou...

The relationship between our feelings and the clothes we wear

Image
I have always found it interesting to examine the relationship between what we wear and how we are feeling .  While I may put my ensembles together in a similar manner, the vibe I choose to go for that day is going to depend a lot on how I am feeling and where I am going.  On days where I have higher energy levels and I am feeling creative, I like to pick out something from my closet that I usually don’t wear (often times because it is more difficult to style due to pattern, color, material, or shape of the garment) and style that into an outfit I would want to wear out.   Some days this goes smoother than others, but often times I will loose steam half way through picking an outfit and get discouraged .   This is when I have to remind myself that although I care about what I am doing, it is really not that deep and to not stress myself out (which is key for me because I WILL STRESS). Another key for me during this process knowing the difference between thinking...

Exploring individuality through clothing

Image
To some individuals, putting energy into what one wears beyond the functionality of clothing may seem like unnecessary extra work .  Especially if you are on a time crunch getting ready or there is anxiety about how you will be perceived by others, expressing oneself through fashion may seem like more trouble than its worth.   I have heard various people in my life say something along the lines of, "I like [the clothing in question, in a store or on someone else, usually famous or a model] but I could not wear it" I challenge this notion with, why not?   Who says we cannot push ourselves outside of our comfort zone and dress differently than what we usually do? Who says we have to stick to one particular style for the rest of our lives? That there are clothes that we like and admire that are simply not for us? I'll tell you who: ourselves. How far we choose to explore fashion and personal style that is outside of our comfort zones is entirely up to us....

Why should we care about our everyday style?

Clothing is more than what we put on our bodies everyday to go about our lives.   The functional perspective of clothing is that we choose what we wear based on what we plan to be doing or the weather forecast.  Another huge element people take into account while getting dressed is, "how will this outfit look to others."  Taking into account how others will perceive our look is something that is inevitable, but in my opinion, this should be minimized.  The more we dress for ourselves the bigger risks we will take.                                           Each time we get dressed to leave the house is a new opportunity for self expression.   It is a way to get our creativity flowing, and to explore what we find interesting, beautiful, or attractive.  If on a given day we are feeling a particular emotion, we may dress ourselves based on this fe...
